Penny Drive
On
March 6, 2007 we begin our 10th annual March Madness Penny Drive.
Before morning meeting, students are able to participate by putting coins
into three parrels. The barrels are each marked for the three grades
in our school: 6th, 7th, & 8th. Each grade level participates as
a team. All pennies go into individulal grade barrels. Each penny is
worth 1 point. So if a sixth grader puts 70 pennies into the sixth grade
barrel, the sixth graders would have a total of 70 points, 1 point for
each penny. Students can put silver coins into opposing grade's barrels.
Silver coins subtract points. If an eighth grader put a quarter into
the sixth graders barrel it would subtract 25 points from its total.
The team with the most points after nine days wins a school dance just
for their grade level.
Persuasive Letter Writing
Contest
Students are given an opportunity to write persuasive letters
nominating a charity. The letters include the charity to which a donation
is to be made along with information about the organization, and th reasons
for their choice. The selection committee picks one grand prize winner
and five runner-ups from each grade. Each grand prize winner will present
a $500.00 check on behalf of themselves and McGee school to their chosen
charity.

basketball game. First City Bank of Berlin awards each grand prize letter
